Dear reader. The web that we know and love is broken.
What do we mean? We mean that if we were to go the traditional route and publish free articles on our site and place ads on our pages for monetization, we're increasingly not going to see the results we hoped for.
What we are increasingly seeing is either search engines or AIs crawling our site and then serving up a summary of our content within the search or AI results, leaving little reason for searchers to actually visit us. Less viewers means less ad impressions, which means less compensation. Welcome to the new zero-click internet.
This leaves very little incentive for allowing search engines or AIs to crawl our site in the first place. It's a very one sided relationship.
We believe a much better model is to continue to make great and unique content and then leave a subset behind a paywall for our loyal subscribers who love what we produce and are getting value at a cost that is the equivalent to a large cup of coffee per month.
It's our hope that we can grow this site organically through social media and word-of-mouth alone to build a community who enjoys esoteric and enigmatic content that can't he found anywhere else.
